Gambles Produce raises $3,860.25 for Red Cross Nepal Relief Efforts

TORONTO, ON, June 12, 2015 – Gambles’ (www.goproduce.com) marketing coordinator Sarah Burroughsford announced that $3,860 has been raised through an employee raffle draw, as well as from donations from Gambles’ customers  – including a $3,000 donation from the company – during the week long Nepal Relief Fundraising campaign.

“Gambles has been supporting our community in many ways for the past 25 years, and this campaign raised funds for immediate humanitarian needs in regions devastated by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25,” says Sarah Burroughsford. “Thanks to the generosity of our customers and staff, Gambles was able to support the Canadian Red Cross and their relief efforts.”

Running from May 18 to May 22, the Nepal Relief Fundraising campaign raised over $1,000 by selling 50/50 raffle tickets. On Friday May 22, the 50/50 draw took place and the lucky ticket holder, Tenzin Khando, very generously decided to donate half of her winnings back to the fund. Gambles Produce also provided a donation of $3,000, pushing the grand total to $3,860.25.

“Gambles Produce has a strong history of giving; ensuring that our people and our community have the support they need to live healthy and active lifestyles,” said Burroughsford. “This particular cause was close to the hearts of everyone at Gambles, as more than one third of our people come from, or have family in that region and were directly affected by the disaster”.

Gambles Produce currently donates thousands of dollars’ worth of produce annually to charities including children’s groups, shelters, schools, and events supporting terminal illnesses. In conjunction with the CPMA’s Freggie Friday program, Gambles works closely with a local elementary school to promote healthy eating with the donation of fresh fruits each month. In addition, Gambles donates regularly to several food banks in the GTA, including The Daily Bread, Second Harvest and Eden Food for Change. Other organizations that Gambles donates to annually are: Elisa House, Lakeshore Community Childcare Centre, MS Society of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Peel Regional Police Race against Racism, Sick Kids Foundation, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
